HD Camcorder Reviews

A review of the JVC Everio GZ-HM200 and the Canon Vixia HF200 HD camcorders

This is a comparison review of these two comsumer level HD camcorders in the price range of $450-$600.

I first bought the JVC because it was $130 cheaper than the Canon at the time, with nearly the same features. It also had the bonus of two SDHC card slots with the ability to automatically and seemless record from one to the other when the first one is full. There wasn't much research available on the internet at the time, only a small handful of youtube and vimeo videos to watch, although there is a nice 16 minute clip of an HSN sales pitch which was also helpful. At the time, amazon was charging $469 for the black JVC ($499 for the blue or red) and $599 for the Canon. In a bid to save money I went for the JVC first. I wanted to use a camera that recorded to flash media because if I get one with a harddrive and it dies, I could potentially lose a ton of memories.

Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS8GSDHC6-S5W - this is best so you don't have to plug in the cameras to get video onto the computer. Works really slick!
